Dimitri Moderbacher

Dimitri was born in San Francisco, CA and raised in Graz, Austria. Dimitri started playing saxophone at age 16, studied music at California State University Northridge and completed his Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance at William Paterson University in 1996.
Since moving to New York City in 1998, Dimitri has performed at The Blue Note, The Jazz Standard, Smalls, Fat Cat, The 55 Bar, Cornelia Street Cafe, The Knitting Factory, Symphony Space, The Atlanta Jazz Festival, The Late Show with David Letterman and other places. He has also performed abroad at the St. Lucia Jazz Festival, the World Creole Music Festival in Dominique, Festival Mizik Jakmel in Haiti, Le Zenith in Paris, and Jazz Im Sägewerk in Austria.
He has toured with such notable performers as Aretha Franklin, Tabou Combo, Todd Rundgren, Norah Jones, Jerry Lewis, Pyeng Threadgill, Angela Ortiz and Max Pollack & Rumba Tap. 
Dimitri's debut CD, Close To My Heart, showcases his unique compositional style and melodic sensibility. Recorded live at SoHo's Kavehaz in February 2002, this remarkable CD features seven original compositions. Close To My Heart draws on the talent of German guitarist Sandra Hempel, bassist Phil Palombi and drummer Jason Wildman. -
